ABOUT THE ARTIST
Since 1999 Monda has traveled and photographed in Egypt on a regular basis. Her photographs are an expression of Egyptian culture and its history in that they portray a way of life that is quickly disappearing. She captures the spirit of collected moments and the interaction of stories found in, architecture, places and people.
Born in Cairo and graduated from the Deutsche Schule Der Borromaerinnen, Monda immigrated with her family to the United States where she pursued two university degrees in German Literature and Business Management simultaneously. She later specialized in cultural documentary photography. After accomplishing a successful career with Bank of America for 27 years, she retired to travel and freelance.
Returning to Egypt, her passion for photography evolved as she began to travel across the country. This passion was driven by an instinctive curiosity and an awareness of the contexts and the people she met along the way Monda learned to observe, to wait for the moment and to catch it as it came into being.
